OBJECTS OF THE VIETNAMESE AUSTRALIAN WELFARE ASSOCIATION – VAWA:
The Vietnamese Australian Welfare Association of NSW was established in 1989 by a group of Vietnamese welfare workers. The objects of the Association shall be:
- To promote mutual respect, tolerance and understanding of culture between the Vietnamese-speaking persons in New South Wales and those of different origins and cultures
- To contribute to community development by:
- (i) raising awareness and understanding of the needs of the Vietnamese- speaking persons in New South Wales, and
- (ii) assisting, sensitising, and liaising with mainstream agencies as well as government departments in relation to such needs, and
- (iii) consulting with and advocating on behalf of the Vietnamese-speaking persons about issues that concern and affect them, so that they can express their views and take part in influencing decisions concerning them.
- To provide mutual support to members wherever appropriate.
- To facilitate the exchange of relevant information and experience in relevant professional areas for better provision of services to clients.
