About Us

OBJECTS OF THE VIETNAMESE AUSTRALIAN WELFARE ASSOCIATION – VAWA:

The Vietnamese Australian Welfare Association of NSW was established in 1989 by a group of Vietnamese welfare workers. The objects of the Association shall be:

1. To promote mutual respect, tolerance and understanding of culture between the Vietnamese-speaking persons in New South Wales and those of different origins and cultures
2. To contribute to community development by:
   • (i) raising awareness and understanding of the needs of the Vietnamese- speaking persons in New South Wales, and
   • (ii) assisting, sensitising, and liaising with mainstream agencies as well as government departments in relation to such needs, and
   • (iii) consulting with and advocating on behalf of the Vietnamese-speaking persons about issues that concern and affect them, so that they can express their views and take part in influencing decisions concerning them.
3. To provide mutual support to members wherever appropriate.
4. To facilitate the exchange of relevant information and experience in relevant professional areas for better provision of services to clients.
